Eligibility:
Open to all students currently registered in Year 4 of the Doctor of
Naturopathic Medicine program.
An award applicant’s academic standing throughout the program to date will be
considered. Generally a student must be in good standing at the time of
application, but students on Academic Notice are also eligible. Students on
Academic Notice due to violation of the Standards of Student Conduct Policy*
may be considered but should meet with the Dean of Student Services before
applying. Students currently on Academic Probation, Final Probation, or on a
LOA/MLOA are not eligible to apply.*(refer the Student Handbook for details.)
Applicant must be:
up to date with tuition payments.
enrolled full-time (60% course load or greater for the entire 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 academic year)
Challenge, audit, prior credit recognition and credit-free courses will not becounted towards the 60% course load.
Born & raised in the Lower Mainland, Shabita went to the University of British Columbia to pursue
a degree in pharmaceutical sciences & is a licensed pharmacist in BC. She completed her training at the
Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine & is also now a licensed naturopathic physician.
As someone who has gone through her own health challenges including chronic pain & Ulcerative
colitis, Shabita has seen first-hand that the balance between acute and supportive therapies is one of the
keys to wellness. As such, she strives to bridge the gap between conventional & naturopathic medicine to
not only treat but support her patient's wellbeing.
She takes pride in becoming involved in her community & has served on the Board of Directors for
United Ostomy Canada (UOC), written a number of articles for UOC, South Asian Woman, Natural
Selections, a student run newsletter at Boucher, as well as naturopathic clinic websites including Vitalia
Health & even provided weekly wellness tips for Country 107.1FM in the past.
Dr. Teja has a naturopathic practice at Sinclair Wellness Centre in downtown Vancouver that
blends evidence based medicine & traditional naturopathic wisdom so that the patient receives the best
care possible. She is passionate about facilitating her patient’s healing by getting to the root cause of their
condition, & more importantly, walking beside them in their health journey. Knowing firsthand what it’s
like to face a challenging health condition, Shabita will always be transparent with you & provide the
motivation you need to continue to strive towards a life not only of health & wellness, but one of pure
vitality.
